Barack Obama 2012 Campaign
In 2011, I produced and edited the official launch video for the Obama 2012 Presidential Campaign. It's hard to remember now, but the first two years of President Obama's first-term were rough – health care reform barely made it over the finish line, the economy was only beginning to improve, and many Americans were still reeling from the recession.
getting the band back together
We made a bold decision to meet supporters where they were – featuring not just passionate activists but a balance of Americans from across the country, who could speak honestly about what they'd experienced since 2008, and what they were looking forward to in 2012.
We shot in 7 states in 7 days, and I edited the final video in another week.
The launch was well-received by many and covered extensively in the press. However, Jon Stewart and the Daily Show lampooned the low-key video, saying:
"How did we go from ‘Yes we can’ to ‘You know, whatever’?"
I also contributed to the messaging, positioning, and branding of the relaunch and website. In fact, during the photoshoot for the homepage, the president was smiling at me.
