Mugs for Failed Ideas
One of my favorite creative traditions is making commemorative mugs for rejected campaign ideas.
Here are some favorites:
We developed many different concepts for the Aquarium Conservation Partnership campaign, in order to present the national coalition with a range of tonal and thematic possibilities.
My favorite concept was "End the Fling," where we'd have asked audiences to write a break-up-letter to single-use plastics, and make a commitment to reliable reusable bottles instead.
For the same campaign, another favorite concept was the irreverent "Trash Talk," built around unconventional ways to decline single-use plastics in daily interactions.
This mug commemorates an elegant but ultimately too complicated un-branded sub-brand for Airbnb. For the company's public policy sub-brand, the concept was to simply use an ampersand to unify the company name with different cities and topics (e.g. "Airbnb & Austin," "Airbnb & Tourism").
